AIODA Optimist Nationals 2016 - SYDNEY

The 2016 Optimist Nationals were held at Georges River 16ft Sailing Club between 2nd – 9th January attracting 250 Optimist competitors across the Green, Intermediate and Open fleet.

Nineteen sailors made the journey from Queensland with their support crew of 40 parents and siblings.more

Fantastic racing conditions were experienced in Sydney harbour in amongst hundreds of other racing yachts including the Sydney Hobart Maxi yachts practicing. A number of QLD racers were entered in the Open Division.more

Seven QLD sailors competed in the recent NSW Youths in early October, with a combined entry of over 130 boats in the Open and Intermediate fleets. Aidan Gummow was the best placed QLD sailor placing 7th overall in PlanSea.more

Great light to medium racing conditions at Yeppoon over the three days in late September saw close racing but an imposing performance by Aidan Gummow from North QLD CYC saw him take 6 wins from nine races against the other 13 competitors and win the Championship for the second year running.more
